From the beginning, Hawthorne High School’s Robotics class has competed in the F.I.R.S.T National Robotics Competition. Since the involvement with F.I.R.S.T, the class is continuously evolving as new technologies emerge and are added to the class curriculum. The class has gone from constructing basic wood and plastic pipe robots to designing and machining actual, professional, metal robots with precise component parts.

This unique and specialized class is aimed at exposing students to the fields of engineering and technology. Along with our sponsor and mentor, Walt Disney Imagineering, students attain knowledge and learn to work as a diverse family in order to excel.
With the inspiration from F.I.R.S.T. Robotics, the HHS Robotics Program has joined the Career Technologies classes to form an Engineering Academy based on the nationally recognized engineering curriculum called Project Lead The Way. The new curriculum is focused on manufacturing with a spotlight on building F.I.R.S.T. robots. As a whole, our team is always looking to better ourselves and do the best we possibly can.

F.I.R.S.T is an important part of all teams. Not only because it is the main part of a team, but because we gain a lot from it, as a team and individually as well. F.I.R.S.T has taught our team the value of team work, as well as self reliance. It also inspires us to do our best, and achieve our goals. Without F.I.R.S.T there would not be any national Robotics Competitions. US FIRST organization is the reason thousands of young engineers all over the world are being exposed to engineering in a different perspective. It allows many opportunities to young people so that they can get involved with their community and build a dream. The FIRST Robotics Competition is an exciting, multinational competition that teams professionals and young people to solve an engineering design problem in an intense and competitive way. The competitions are like big sporting events, which result in an enormous amount of focused brainstorming, developing of life skills, dedicated mentoring, project timelines and deadlines.
